Nanotechnology researchers at ODTU study on generating surfaces that do not keep germs by using cheaper methods.
Researchers, obtained composite materials by processing silver and zeolite. When laboratory phase of the project is completed ,it’s planned to be used for detergent-free hygiene in hospitals and schools.
High School student Kevser Uz attended a support program of TUBITAK about zeolite. The name of her Project is : “A New Hot Water Supply Created by Environment-friendly Zeolite”. TUBITAK awarded her the first prize. She also won the 2007 Stockholm Water Prize among young people.
Prof. Dr. Ertuğrul, declared that using zeolite instead of salt on highways is a better method, because it’s cheaper and more effective. He also said: ”Turkey uses 90 thousand tones of salt per year. Natural zeolite reserve of zeolite is approximately 50 billion tones. Total cost of salt used for highways last year is 50 trillion Turkish Lira's. So usage of zeolite instead of salt will help us save money.”
